Occupational Health Safety & Injury Management Policy

Serco Sodexo Defence Services (SSDS) is a leading provider of Support Services to the Australian Defence Force. Occupational Health & Safety and Injury Management are integral parts of our business at SSDS. We have an ongoing commitment to establishing measurable objectives and targets to ensure continued improvement aimed at zero harm to employees, contractors and the customer.

At SSDS we will fulfil our responsibilities under relevant State and Commonwealth legislation and meet any other requirements placed upon us under our contract with Defence. This will be achieved through the development, implementation and maintenance of safety systems, procedures and standards. The ongoing effectiveness of these systems will be regularly reviewed in line with our continuous improvement philosophy.

Occupational Health & Safety is both an individual and shared responsibility where everyone employed by our business must ensure that their jobs are performed safely. The company aims to ensure effective two-way communication and consultation between management and employees on health and safety matters, using the Risk Management Committee structure to facilitate this approach. Provision of suitable duties whenever practicable and consultation with injured employees (and representative as necessary) is an essential requirement of SSDS proactive Injury Management Program.

All Managers and Supervisors are responsible for maintaining a safe working environment. This includes ensuring that work safe practices are in place and observed and hazards are managed, as well as supporting Return to Work programs.

All Employees are responsible for observing safe work procedures and instructions, appropriately using equipment and clothing provided, notifying management of any incidents, accidents or potential hazards, participating fully in Return to Work programs, and for working in such a way that limits the risk of injury to themselves or any other person.

SSDS employs specialist Occupational Health, Safety and Injury Management personnel to assist managers and employees to fulfil their responsibilities outlined in this policy. Additional external Occupational Health, Safety and Injury Management expertise and assistance is also utilised from time to time as appropriate.

The success of this policy depends upon the commitment of every employee in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace throughout all of our operations.
