SSDS is pleased to announce the national Star Performers winners for 2011. Star Performers is the SSDS Employee Reward and Recognition program to reward our employees for their outstanding achievements in Customer Service, Innovation & Initiative, Health & Safety and Community & Environment. The 2011 annual gala dinner was held on Saturday 4 February at Sirromet Winery, Mt Cotton, Brisbane. We congratulate all the nominees and the winners on their achievements for 2011.

Happy Festive Season

The Brisbane Support Office will be closed from close of business, Friday 23 December and will re-open on Monday 9 January. Site Offices will also be closed for stand down during this period. Some skeleton staff will be operating in Support Office during this time and can be contacted via email. Refer to the Contact Us page for details.

Indigenous Traineeships in the Top End

SSDS are delighted to be able to support the Department of Defence with the roll-out of a new program which will create employment and skill opportunities for Indigenous Australians living in the Top End.

The new Joint Logistics Command (JLC) Indigenous Trainee Pilot Program was launched by Warren Snowdon, Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, and Commander Joint Logistics Air Vice-Marshal (AVM) Margaret Staib at RAAF Base Darwin on 20 May 2011.

“This is a positive development for the Top End and is a good example of how Defence works with local organisations to deliver a service that will benefit the community,” said Mr Snowdon.

“The traineeship will consist of an on the job training at Joint Logistics Unit (North) (JLU(N)) with collaborative assistance provided from Defence contractors BAE Systems Australia and Serco Sodexo Defence Services.”

Charles Darwin University (CDU) will also assist with the program by providing the trainees with course reference material, log books, and assessment of competency against all Units of the Traineeship.

Following the launch, Air Vice-Marshall Margaret Staib said JLC is determined to take advantage of the full scope of skills in the communities in which the program is based.

“These traineeships will ensure that the APS workforce remains diverse, innovative and comprised of the best talent available” said AVM Staib.

Australian Defence Magazine is Australia’s leading defence business magazine. ADM’s role is to provide a communications bridge between industry and Defence, particularly Defence Material Organisation, and related divisions such as Defence Support Group. SSDS is pleased to announce that is has been ranked as ADM’s 8th Top Contractor for 2010. Although listed 8th, SSDS is effectively first with regard to the services we provide when compared with the other industries in the listing who are technology providers. In 2011, we look forward to continuing our reputation within the Defence contracting sector as a provider of service excellence.

Support Office has reopened

Power restored at 301 Coronation Drive

The power has been restored at 301 Coronation Drive but the building managers still have more work to do this afternoon before tenants can return. If there are no further power issues this afternoon, the SSDS IT Team will commence restoring services at approximately 06:00hrs tomorrow (19 Jan). All other Support Office staff are requested to start work at approximately 10:00hrs. Thank you all again for your patience and understanding.

Support Office update as at 18 Jan (10:15)

We are anticipating the Support Office will open by the end of the week. Energex is working very hard to have services reconnected but they are working under difficult circumstances. On a positive note, all lanes of Coronation Drive are now open. The authorities have conducted a depth survey and sonar survey along the base of the rock walls underwater and Coronation Drive has shown no significant signs of bank slumping. Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said today was the first time a proper analysis of the road could be performed from the river due to flood debris and the strong current.

To our valued employees, clients and suppliers we thank you for your continued patience and understanding at this time. We do not expect the office will be closed for months nor will any staff lose jobs, as may have been indicated in some rumour mills. Energex to restore power to 3500 overnight

ENERGEX will continue restoring power to Brisbane suburbs throughout the night, with crews concentrating on specific areas to restore as many homes and businesses as possible. Most homes and businesses able to be connected in the suburbs of West End, Highgate Hill, Milton, Auchenflower, Taringa, St Lucia, Sherwood, Yeronga, Oxley, Kangaroo Point and Coorparoo can expect to have power by 8am tomorrow morning (18 Jan). Premises affected by water inundation must be inspected by a licensed electrician before power can be safely connected.

Energex attended the Riverfront building this afternoon and confirmed it is on the re-connection list but has not been able to confirm a time. At this stage, staff will not be required to attend the office on Tuesday 18 January unless otherwise advised by your Manager.

The SSDS CEO, Wayne Smith, would like to thank all staff, suppliers and customers for their continued patience during the flood situation in Queensland and the subsequent effect on the Brisbane Support Office at Milton. There is a strong possibility of power being reconnected today or tomorrow but while the Riverfront building has been declared safe to enter there are many other severely affected areas in Milton that the authorities are attending to first. If any Brisbane staff have any questions or concerns about returning to work, please contact your Manager or the Communications Manager on 0439 351 015. As we are still without email, we will continue to update this site as more information comes to hand.
