At SSDS, our commitment to the Australian Defence Force extends beyond our daily operations to supporting and responding to the needs of the wider ADF community.
Surge Support

During times of increased activity or crisis, the ADF often requires immediate and urgent response to supply additional services including additional staff, increased security, fire and rescue, equipment loading, stores, additional catering, cleaning and accommodation services. For over a decade, SSDS has successfully supported:
- Major military exercises and deployment
- Mounting base operations for troop deployment - East Timor, Bougainville, Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan
- Natural Disaster Assistance - Sydney South Coast fires, South East Asia Tsunami, storm damage, floods
- Terrorist Threats - September 11, Bali bombing (security lock down and additional immediate measures)
- Humanitarian Relief - Bosnian Refugee Crisis
Spouse Recruitment
SSDS is committed to providing national employment opportunities for ADF spouses and partners, through programs such as SWAPP (Services Workforce Access Program for Partners)
Support Programs

- Cadet Sponsorship - sponsoring cadets into ADF programs
- Sponsoring Defence Sporting Teams
- Catering Exchange Program - cross training SSDS & MRU personnel in other catering environments, such as Telstra Stadium
- Catering Excellence Awards
- Specialist Training - SSDS provides training programs to Defence in the areas of HACCP, Food Safety, Mess Manager, Manual Handling and Ranges Operation
- Defence Reserves - SSDS encourages and supports all employees who volunteer or wish to continue to serve as part-time members of the Armed Forces. A significant number of SSDS staff are current Reservists.
